"The National Guard killed a United States citizen today. And yes, you did hear that correctly. The National Guard killed a U.S. citizen today in Memphis, Tennessee. About 4 o'clock this morning, Tyron Johnson, who was 20 years old at the time of the shooting, was shot twice in the chest by the National Guard after what is being described as a pursuit gone wrong. Memphis PD and the National Guard chasing him, at which point he apparently pulled a gun out, turned around, and was shot. He ultimately succumbed to his injuries at the scene, and while I will not speculate any further on something that is still developing, I do just want to talk about what the hell the National Guard is doing assisting in civilian law enforcement. Because this is your friendly reminder that this is a direct violation of the Posse Cometatus Act, that Memphis tried to get this shut down, but it was found in court that they didn't have standing to challenge Donald Trump's authority on the National Guard being deployed within their city. Officers are not police officers."
