Mayor Bass saying above some pretty loud boos that she “apologizes for any confusion,” regarding communication about the health risks of smoke. Saying that Boyle Heights will “be made whole.” Mentioning the centers (that are not open outside of 9am-5pm).
"The liver for this neighborhood, and I won't stop until Boyle Heights, East L.A., and this neighborhood is left whole, is returned to whole, and is improved. Let me straight up apologize for any confusion, miscommunication, and information that was put out, especially at the beginning when the fires were still going on, especially anything that I have said. Whether or not the smoke was harmful or not, I am very clear that all smoke, under all circumstances, is harmful. Let me just say that I want to commit that there will be multiple layers of environmental investigations, both internal and with independent sciences. I see this as an environmental justice issue, and it raises to me what environmental risk that this community faces, and many communities face, especially communities of color. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of warehouses in East L.A., in the San Fernando Valley, and in South L.A. And my commitment is to survey each of those facilities to find out what is happening in those facilities. Is there any potential harm that could come to the neighborhood?"
