"What my MSNOW colleagues and I found out recently is that the president had to switch planes in the middle of his trip because his new Air Force One is not as safe as the old one he rejected. While Donald Trump likes to say that the new jet, which was gifted to him by the Qatari government, is perfect. It's not. It doesn't have some of the incredible military defense capabilities that the old jet had and was built specifically for the purpose of protecting the leader of the free world. Those elements are incredibly advanced, secure communications that turn the jet basically into a situation room where the president can have absolutely secure communications with military leaders, foreign leaders, without any risk of those communications being intercepted. It also has a missile defense system. So if someone tries to attack the plane from the ground, there's a way to protect the plane from being blown up. The third important thing is there is a medical suite on the old jet that essentially becomes an operating room akin to one in a trauma one level hospital. A former national security official who's looked at both of these jets says this new jet is a passenger jet. It was built for aesthetics, not the presidential mission. The old jet was built from the ground up as a military plane. So with great fanfare, President Trump announced he was going to debut this new jet, but he was also after July 4th heading to Turkey for a NATO summit. What we learned was on the day that he was supposed to be traveling from Turkey to the UK, he began ordering strikes on Iran. He canceled the ceasefire. And during that time, he had to be on a jet that was absolutely the most safe that he could fly on. And that was the jet that he rejected. This new jet was controversial from the start because the president was accepting it as a gift. But now it's controversial because it's revealing that the president's insistence on receiving this luxury gift actually is wasting taxpayer dollars and making him less safe."
