FIFA: Fixing It For Argentina
"The fallout from the Argentina-Egypt game last night is spiralling out of control. We're talking investigations being launched, allegations of match fixing, fan violence, reported racism against speed, and of course the Egyptian coach throwing up this gesture. So here's what's going on. Last night's game was a marketing manipulation to keep Messi in the tournament. Those are the words of the Egyptian coach at the official press conference after Argentina came back from 2-0 down, scoring three goals in less than 15 minutes. In fact, the Egyptian federation has now officially filed a complaint demanding an investigation into the referee's decisions. Zico, who had one of his two goals disallowed, said while holding back tears, this tournament is fixed, God is my witness. Just to make the controversy even bigger, Egypt's coach may now face an investigation after he made an X symbol towards the referee in the 98th minute. Now no one is exactly certain what he was trying to say with this gesture, but under FIFA's anti-discrimination protocol, crossing both forearms into an X is supposed to alert officials that racial abuse is taking place. But because it was unclear exactly why he did this, instead of pausing or suspending the match, which is usually the protocol in this scenario, the referee ended up giving the coach a yellow card instead. Oh, and it doesn't stop there. Fans from both sides were also seen hurling insults and objects at each other in the stands. FIFA have officially launched an investigation into allegations that Speed was racially abused at the Argentina-Cape Verde game, while many fans are claiming that this abuse continued at yesterday's game too. But FIFA haven't confirmed if they are investigating this incident as well. So in the end, what do you guys think? Was this a fair game or not?"
