Republicans are celebrating the anniversary of their Big Ugly Bill while Americans are struggling to afford health care, housing, groceries, and more. In today’s edition of Sarah Explains It All, I’ll be breaking down what one year of the Big Ugly Law has actually meant for our neighbors.
"At the same time that Republicans are celebrating the one-year anniversary of the president's big ugly bill, in fact, we were set to vote on a resolution celebrating the passage of that bill this week, but that got pulled because it's chaos here in Washington. But at the same time they are celebrating the passage of that bill, I'm hearing from so many people back in the district that life in America is far too unaffordable, and that bill actually exacerbated the affordability crisis. And let me tell you how. So in today's very brief hallway edition of Sarah Explains It All, I'm here to tell you that that big ugly bill had some really big and ugly impacts on our communities. Eight million Americans lost their health insurance because it became too expensive. And in Maryland alone, we're set to see an additional 14% in premiums, making it further out of reach. Now let's talk about actually ending hunger in this country. The bill resulted in four million Americans losing their SNAP benefits, including one million kids. So in my mind, there's absolutely nothing to celebrate. There's just a tremendous amount of work ahead. Stay tuned."
