The shipwreck below them shouldn’t be there. #ShortStories #StoryTime #JustForFun.

🎤 Whisper Transcript (en) ⏱ 60s

"The wreck felt wrong before Marina Solberg had even suited up. She was sitting on the stern of the Vestford, a 30 meter salvage vessel out of Bergen, eating a sandwich she wasn't tasting while the sonar operator, a young man named Dahl, who still got excited about things, talked to her from across the deck. The reading was on his screen. She could see it from where she sat, a shape, roughly bilateral, 340 meters down, sitting in a stretch of the Norwegian sea where the chart showed nothing but flat seabed. Wrong location, wrong depth for its apparent size, wrong everything. Matches no registry, Dahl said. Not Norwegian, not Danish, not anything the database has. I ran it three times. How old? Marina asked. That's the thing. He turned the screen toward her. The profile says pre-war, maybe earlier, but there's no record of any vessel going down in this sector before 1960. That was an excerpt from my short story, Ankleman, part of Short Stories for Busy People, Volume 3. The links are in my bio."
