"In its latest attempt to curb immigration, the Polish government is set to introduce a new range of restrictions needed for obtaining Polish citizenship. The Polish Interior Ministry announced that each applicant's bid to obtain citizenship would depend on four pillars β a person's length of stay, tax residency status, a citizenship exam and their loyalty to the Polish state. The new requirements would officially extend the legal residence requirement to 8 years. Applicants would also be required to pass an upper intermediate Polish language exam, making Polish citizenship rules some of the most restrictive in the world. More restrictive requirements come as Poland grapples with unprecedented levels of immigration, largely fueled by the war in Ukraine which pushed over six million residents out of the war-torn country towards safety."
