"Hi, my name is Elias. I'm with KC DSA and the KC Ice Free campaign. I'm out here in Northeast Kansas City in Pendleton Heights, and I'm here to talk about some bad news. At around 10 a.m. this morning at La Fontanella Foods right off of Paseo, there was an ice raid. You've probably heard about it already in the news, and that's what I'm here to talk about. As of currently, we believe that around five to eight individuals were kidnapped from our community while they were working at their jobs, minding their own businesses. More details will surely come out. I'm not a reporter, but I'm here to tell you what's happening here in Kansas City. This is not an unusual event. What is only unusual about it is the fact that this was an entire workplace that was raided and rather violently. This is the most ICE agents and DHS agents, broadly speaking, that we have seen probably in at least a year at a single space for a single event. But every morning between 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., almost every day, we are getting reports of our neighbors being kidnapped from our communities while they're going to work or in other circumstances. So I'm here today to ask you simply, please get involved. There is the Kansas City Community Defense Network that you can get involved to become a rapid responder. One good thing that happened this morning was so many of us showed up for our neighbors. The crowd was easily 20 to 30 people and were able to do a lot of good documentation on who was taken. Some people who were being detained by ICE were saved because their neighbors were able to get them their documentation in time before they were kidnapped, put in chains and into a van, disappeared, probably to the core civic facility up in Leavenworth. For all we know, they were saved. Around three is what we currently believe. You can make a difference. Join Community Defense. We have mutual aid efforts, tail light clinics, and more. Whatever it is, whatever you do, get involved because it is happening. And tomorrow, it can be you. None of us are free until we're all free.
