"The man accused of killing another man inside a West El Paso Walgreens said he shot him in self-defense But police say surveillance video and witness statements paint a very different picture Here's what we know 26 year old Nicholas Emmanuel Wells is charged with murder in the death of 32 year old Christopher Brandon Steven Police say the confrontation started in the Walgreens parking lot over a handicapped parking space Wells told investigator Stephen Smother nearly hit his vehicle that the family antagonized him and that Stephen Attacked him inside the store He claimed he pulled out his handgun to de-escalate the fight and fired only after Stephen continued attacking him But detectives say surveillance video paints a very different story. Stephen Smothers vehicle never appeared to put Wells in danger Investigators say video also shows Wells following the family into the Walgreens while appearing to speak aggressively Police say Stephen eventually turned around and chest bumped Wells. That's when Wells punched Stephen and the two began fighting Investigators say the video shows both men struggling over Wells' handgun before Wells pointed the weapon at Stevens and fired. Court records state that after the first shot Stephen fell to the ground at that point Wells stepped back and fired two more shots while Stephen was lying on the floor Stephen died at the hospital and Wells remains behind bars at the El Paso County Detention Facility To read more on the story, make sure you're heading on over to KTSM.com"
