"Rideshare drivers, we have an important warning for you from the U.S. Border Patrol. Take a look. Officials say criminal smuggling organizations are using legitimate rideshare apps to trick unsuspecting drivers into picking up migrants near the border. According to Border Patrol, warning signs include pickups in remote desert areas or along the border wall, passengers with heavily soiled clothing, groups trying to squeeze too many people into one vehicle, third-party bookings where the person who ordered the ride isn't there, or passengers who appear lost, stressed or unsure of where they are. Border Patrol says drivers who unknowingly accept these rides could be detained at checkpoints while agents investigate and, in some cases, could face serious legal consequences if they're found to be involved in human smuggling. Officials are urging drivers to trust their instincts. If something feels off, cancel the ride, leave the area, and report the suspicious activity through the rideshare app or to law enforcement. Officials want to remind you that suspicious activity can be reported anonymously to the U.S. Border Patrol and, of course, in case of an emergency, always dial 911.
