"The primary purpose of a revolution is not to satisfy the sensibilities of internet people. The primary purpose is to improve the material conditions of people. The day that that picture was taken, the same picture was taken with seven other ambassadors. A total of eight ambassadors came to present their credentials to Ibrahim Traore and then this some sort of Christian Zionist organization which targets black people in America basically. They go and take one of those pictures or two of those pictures showing only the Israeli ambassador and Ibrahim Traore and say Ibrahim Traore has received an Israeli ambassador and signaled the creation of a new chapter in the Burkina Faso-Israel relationship. Completely pulled that out of his back side basically. I think that because of the sheer amount of revolutionary aesthetic surrounding the Burkina Faso story and how romantic it is, a lot of people don't realize that Burkina Faso is still quite a poor country and has a lot of material difficulties. When you're in that situation, three or four years ago you were ranked as the second poorest country in the world. So this is not the time for a pragmatic leader to start picking fights with people he's not qualified to pick fights with. Even much bigger and much more significant countries like China, when they were going through their revolutionary periods, they didn't go around picking fights with giants that they couldn't go toe to toe with. So why would Burkina Faso, which is many hundreds of times smaller than China, be the one to do that? But I think a lot of these internet commentators are, they've been taken in by this romantic notion of this guy who is like a regent of Tomasankara. He's some kind of savior, he's not. It's a pragmatic leader whose primary job is to fix his country."
