BREAKING: Animal Justice just wrapped up in court fighting against the Quebec government’s effort to shut down our fur farming lawsuit. Animal Justice & @thefurbearers.bsky.social are suing the government for failing to stop fur farming cruelty—even after they recognized it’s likely illegal.
"Animal Justice is at the courthouse in Montreal today to push back on the government's effort to shut down our lawsuit to end the unacceptable cruelty happening on fur farms across the province. Hi, I'm Elana Devine and I'm the Director of Advocacy in Animal Justice. I'm here today with our legal counsel, Marie-Claude Ténamon, and my colleague, Alexandra Yaksich. In November, Animal Justice and the fur bearers filed a historic case against the Quebec government for failing to take action against cruel fur farming. The government has admitted since 2022 that keeping animals like minks and foxes in tiny barren cages causes suffering and should be banned. Yet, they have failed to act. Animals on fur farms endure lies of relentless cruelty. In tiny wire cages, they cannot express natural behaviours like swimming, burrowing or exploring. The result is psychological torment, often manifesting as frantic pacing, self-mutilation and even cannibalism. Animal Justice and the fur bearers are asking the court to step in. We believe the government's continued failure to address fur farming in direct contradiction of its own evidence is unreasonable and unlawful. Thank you so much for your support and stay tuned for more updates as our case makes its way through the courts."
