Source sent this: Maine candidate Nirav Shah at a May event, comparing the scars he saw as he worked in Cambodia, to the genocide in Gaza. "After every single genocide, the world says the very same thing…'never again.'" But when it comes to Gaza, Shah says, that's not being upheld.

I took a leave of absence To go work in Cambodia for a number of years And I saw firsthand The impact the scars that genocide leaves on a community on a state on a country I saw it for years and years and years in the three years that I worked there of what a what a three-year genocide from 1975 1978 in Cambodia did for an entire generation of people it was so bad that That back in that time period there is a saying in Cambodia, which is The hope is for the unborn Things were so bad that the only hope was for the generation that even hadn't been born yet And when I look at and read about and talk to people about what is happening in Gaza right now I see that very very same pattern Re-emerging that the genocide that is happening right now will cause not just in the immediate future But for a generation or more to come the psychological scars the health scars that economic destruction this is effectively what happened in Cambodia after their genocide and After every single genocide the world says the very same thing, but we say two words Never again after Rwanda in 1994 after the Khmer Rouge and yet in Gaza We're all saying well never again, but no one's actually doing so Hence the personal connection that I have because I don't mean to be glib and use an inapt metaphor But I have I have seen this I've seen this horror film before and I've seen where it leads and I see where this goes in 20 years so all of that is to say I have no hesitation in calling what is unfolding in Gaza a genocide and Unfortunately the scars of that genocide we haven't even begun to see them emerge Thank you"
