🎤 Whisper Transcript (en) ⏱ 108s

"He built his own house. That's the most American shit I've ever heard in my life. I don't know how to build my own house. Do you? I would go to Home Depot and then while standing in the 2x4 aisle, take my phone and start googling how to build your own house. And it would take me at least 15 minutes to think, but I probably need a cart. But Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, he did it. And he did it while working full-time establishing a family and raising three kids. Kids who are clearly more educated, more articulate than the president himself. I saw a video posted on Facebook that he had been shot. I recognize him immediately. Not from his appearance, but from his voice. Crying for help. He did not deserve to be reduced to a headline of Mexican man shot and killed by ICE. Lorenzo raised such a wholesome American family, I'm having a hard time understanding why ICE would come after him. Because after 35 years of working in this country, he has no record. A claim I think at least half of Republican politicians themselves can't make. But Donald Trump's mass deportation campaign came for Lorenzo anyway, even though they said that that campaign was targeting the worst of the worst. But you tell me, does the worst of the worst raise three courageous kids? Did the worst of the worst wake up every single day for decades at 6am so they can spend the day outdoors building things with their hands only to come home to their families and their dogs at the end of the day? Was Lorenzo the worst of the worst? Is that why they chased him down in unmarked ICE vehicles, shot him in the right side of the abdomen and then watched him die on the sidewalk before accusing him, like they did with so many others, of using his vehicle like a weapon with no video evidence? Did he deserve to be reduced to that headline? Instead of asking more stupid rhetorical questions, I'll just answer them myself. No, Lorenzo Araujo was not the worst of the worst. He was a husband and a father and by my definition more purely American than 99% of the people who told him to go back to where he came from. Because Lorenzo lived here, he worked his ass off, he followed the law and he made this country a better place. If only we could say the same about the people who shot him."
