The #stlblues made some BIG moves this offseason, but were they the team from the West that improved the most? The guys discuss on the newest episode of the #LastMinuteBluesPodcast
"You've now created more competition for some of your younger players. And just looking at like what McTavish and what Thomas and what Dvorsky could be, I mean, that could be one of the deepest center depth rosters that you've seen in the Western Conference this year. So, I mean, I think they are one of the most improved teams this season in the National Hockey League for what they've done. Yeah, I think the Blues obviously were able to make more moves and have more turnover and change the look of the team for one reason. And that reason was those long-term contracts, talking about Braden Shen, Justin Falk, Torrey Krug, Nick Letty, you know, there's a lot of them, right? And so two, three years ago, you just couldn't move them. I mean, of course you put Letty on waivers, he was picked up. But you had to wait until there was just one or two, you know, maybe three years left on a couple of these deals. And then now they become more intriguing to teams. You see Detroit trade for Falk, the Islanders trade for Braden Shen. And what happens? You get first round draft picks for those guys, and then you're able to take a couple of those picks and turn them into Mason McTavish. So, you know, I just think that of all the last few off seasons, you finally got to a point where, you know, the team wasn't handcuffed."
