"think of data like soil, not as oil, but like soil, data governance is how we tend to and take care of the soil, how we make sure that it's fertilized and that it's ready in order to be the basis for productive growth. After many, many years of having competing data regimes, I think we're coming towards a convergent position where everyone is open to being able to share more data for development purposes and for the development of AI, but with principles, ethical safeguards and mechanisms that are cost effective and innovative that we can all agree upon. One of the main obstacles for data governance across borders is that we have different regimes operating in certain regions of the world or at national level that don't talk to each other. Not trying to solve the entire picture, but going with what works, taking small steps towards the ultimate goal, which is to have a shared understanding of data management that benefits development."
