We're really just going to let him destroy the WH? Really?
"So Jonathan, today there was some draping that went down along the scaffolding of the White House North Portico today, where workers are working on the columns in one of Trump's remodeling projects. And he shared a photo of new gold signage around the West Wing saying he's quote, revamped it and planted maple trees. Now, you guys obviously spent plenty of time with Trump for this book. When you interviewed him, Jonathan, one of the first things he said to you, I understand, was that he ordered maple trees for the White House. And just in the, you guys have so much reporting there, but about the arch and about the pool and about the renovation and about the ballroom, how much time does Trump spend thinking about these things compared to the other things that you do as president of the United States, like conduct a war or deal with the economy? An enormous amount of time. We have a scene in the book where several aides are in the room for a highly classified defense briefing. And, sorry, this guy walks in like soul to the earth kind of looking guy and he's holding up stone samples for the patio that Trump's building, the Rose Garden. It's just like extremely classified, sensitive national security meeting. This guy just walks in, he's clearly got essentially walk-in privileges to the Oval. And so Trump gets up, they're looking out at the Rose Garden, he goes outside, he gets on the phone, he's calling his other guy. He talks about his gold guy, he's got a gold guy who brings the gold in. We have a scene in the book where the press secretary, Caroline Levitt, walks into the Oval Office. This is early in the term last year. And Trump is there super gluing himself, super gluing a gold applique onto the fireplace. So it's an enormous amount of his time and when we went in and saw him, the war in Iran was the furthest thing from his mind. I mean, he had the photographs of the maple trees on the resolute desk. He had images of the ballroom, which he wanted to show us. He was proud that the columns were apparently gonna be bigger than the columns at the Supreme Court. Just to take a step back, he's really just trying to put his imprint on Washington, DC in a permanent, durable way."
