"Please understand that we are protecting this community's children here. Don't shoot at us. It is a situation that has staffers, families, community members just shaking their heads and saying, you've got to be kidding me. Because we're here at the Providence House, a beloved crisis nursery on Cleveland's east side in the Buckeye Shaker neighborhood. And over 4th of July weekend, technically Thursday into Friday and Saturday into Sunday, multiple gunshots were fired outside here, whether it was celebratory or not. And here's the thing, multiple bullets entered the Providence House crisis nursery. We're talking at least a handful at this point, breaking through one of the side windows here and another right over here. You can see they're boarded up, going through the wall in a spot where the little kids, the children that stay here temporarily, traditionally eat their meals, hang out, play. Yeah, it's terrifying. I mean, I immediately thought about if a kid had wanted a drink of water or needed to get up to get something and was in this space, they would have been witness to it. And perhaps even could have been injured. This is a situation that has caused such grave concern where they are now re-evaluating the security protocols here, installing bulletproof glass, they already have shatterproof, more cameras, potentially more fencing. And they say at this point, something has got to give. Cleveland police investigating, new fundraising efforts underway right here in Cleveland's east side of Providence House."
