"I think the hardest thing in this job is how you stay connected to your family. It's a cliché term, you know, but I think it's something that you've got to have really good support at home. You know, I had three daughters. Baseball's helped raise those daughters. But I love this job. I mean, I've got a passion for it. And this is my 22nd year I got out of it for five years when we had a situation or a family. And they've always been really supportive. I get a lot of late night phone calls just checking up on me. Dad, how you doing? What's going on? One way I stay connected, I was at my grandson's three-year-old. He turned three the other day, got to go to this party before game. And his mom, Macy, my oldest daughter, so we've got the two grandkids now. And she said, hey, pick out a, he's a big dinosaur guy, a lot of little kids are. And I said, pick out a dinosaur, you know, so Papa, they call me Papa. I don't think you come up with a name. They came up with that name. And I said, Papa, you need to take Spike on the road with you so somebody will be traveling with you. So, well, here's Spike right here. I don't even know what kind of dinosaur this is. I'm sure he would know, but Spike's been everywhere with me. I put him in a bag. It's probably corny to some people, but if you're a grandpa or a papa, so to speak, then you know what I'm talking about. Baseball is something, I've got a passion for it, but you can't forget about your family. And I always try to take a picture with Spike somewhere and just send that home, take a picture, just a reminder, you know, where I'm at, what I'm doing. And that way they can kind of, they learn. And she used it as a teaching moment, like tells him where this is at and where, and I think that's something that you've got to kind of, especially kids that age, you've got to keep your face in front of them a little bit, and they don't see me as much, but I'm still papa to those guys. They mean the world to me, so."
