If you’re one of the “leftist” or “progressives” who have and even still complain about “genocide Joe” — but who have never uttered anything about the ongoing genocide in Sudan — please know, your own internal racism is the primary reason for the disconnect. Regards.
"The civil war in Sudan has escalated since 2023. The hallmarks of genocide are here. The starvation, the crops burnt, the villages that are destroyed, the children that are out of school, the women that have been raped. Does anyone care about Sudan? This is something that I heard over and over again. Recently, I've returned from the border of Sudan with the photojournalist, Lindsay Adaria. My focus was to interview witnesses who had seen horrific crimes and were able to talk about it with me. We hear more about certain wars, such as Israel-Palestine and Ukraine, than we do about these forgotten conflicts like Sudan. I try to change that. Two forces, the rapid support forces and the Sudanese forces, are struggling to compete for the soul of the country. Sudan is increasingly becoming a proxy war. Many foreign nations are benefiting from the bloodshed in the country. They include the UAE, who benefits from the vast gold resources which are being transported from mines in Sudan to Dubai. Egypt is also benefiting, Turkey and other countries in the region. When this happens, it means that the country itself is basically torn apart, like vultures at the carcass of something that is struggling to stay alive. There's been horrific crimes against civilians. 26 million food insecure, 34 million in need of humanitarian aid. One aid worker told me there are so many dead that they have stopped counting. I truly believe that this is a war that could have been prevented if governments like the U.S. and the U.K. had listened to experts who briefed them and yet they did nothing. Instead, they chose to protect their very powerful allies. It's my job as a reporter and a human rights activist to make sure that people do know what's happened there so that the crimes are not committed again and the perpetrators are brought to justice.
