"The idea for Goat Sword first came to me as I was gearing up for my final trip with my father, who was diagnosed with cancer. We were actually on a cruise ship, traveling around the western coast of Norway when I wrote the first draft, which is entirely different than the version that is currently in pre-production, revolving around a group of journalists that travel to Norway to interview a band that turns out to be vampires. The first draft is based entirely on the Vice documentary about Norwegian black metal, featuring this iconic interview with Gaal from Gorgoroth. Someone you probably need to cut to small pieces and sew back together. There was also a scene where the front man tortures one of these journalists and forces him to drink his own blood. Again, very heavily inspired by Gaal. The court claims he tortured his victim for six hours while collecting his blood into a cup and threatened to make him drink it. It wasn't until several years later that I realized this idea was way too high budget. And so I decided to scale things way back in a much different draft.
