ICYMI: New episode with Christopher Summerfield, author of "These Strange New Minds" AI agents are a little *too* affirming. Maybe that's not such a good idea. Watch us on YouTube, or listen wherever you get your podcasts. becauselanguage.com/140-these-st...
"I think it's really good to have friends who are willing to be direct and tell you when you're wrong or doing something bad. And I think some people think that to be a good friend is to be always affirming and supportive and these AI sycophantic agents are that. And I heard Sam Altman has said something like, some people have never been told they had a good idea their entire lives and like, how sad is that? And I'm like, well, maybe some people don't have good ideas. Everybody needs affirmation, but sometimes you're just a wanker. Well, it's also like, I don't understand either when people are happy with that affirmation because, and I know my mom listens to this and I love my mom, but when my mom says I'm very smart, I'm like, you're my mom. This is not a reliable source. Like, this is not a reliable source. Okay, okay. You know what? A good positive signal from your mom might not be a good indicator, but a negative signal from your mom definitely is. Yes."
