💧 It's time to hold water companies to account 🚰South East Water supplies fresh water to most of our area. It has failed to deliver a pipeline that would help secure our water supply and reduce the need to take water from local chalk aquifers.

"Fresh water is very important, but did you know South East Water have said they cannot guarantee supply to all the new homes in North East Hampshire? This is because they were supposed to build a new pipeline to supply fresh water to our area and they haven't done it. They should have done it, they gave themselves six months on a project they hadn't even started. And I spoke to Ofwat in the Water APPG and I asked them about holding South East Water to account. They more or less told me that they can't do it. We need a regulator with teeth. It is not okay that a water company can promise an infrastructure project. It knows it can't deliver. In the meantime, South East Water is taking fresh water out of our chalk stream aquifers. The Environment Agency have told them to stop, but because they haven't built the pipeline, they are repealing this decision and can continue to take that water out for the time being. This is a huge problem for our infrastructure, for our environment and for the supply of fresh water to our homes."

This week I pressed regulatory leaders on their failure to hold them to account.</p>
