A railway in Iran's northeast — the Mashhad line — was struck by the U.S. last night. Physical damage is said to be limited and easily repairable.
"You're saying that because the damage was limited. I saw the images of the damage to that railway and it wasn't that significant. As you said, this is easily repairable. So you're saying this strike is more of a warning to Iran. Is it a warning to Iran or to China of the Belt and Road Initiative or the railway lines, the corridors being built? No, I mean, it's very difficult to threaten Iran, but it's a symbol symbolic thing, you know, to tell. Is this the one? Yeah, that's the way at the corner there in the northeast of Iran. That's it. It's called the Mashhad Saraks railway. And it's part of the Belt and Road sixth corridor, which is called the China Central Asia West Asia corridor, which extends from China to Central Asia through Iran to Iraq, the Gulf countries, Syria and all these other countries in West Asia. West Asia is the real name for Middle East. Middle East is an old colonialist idea. So but it's difficult to threaten China, but also it's a way to tell the Iranians that this is a no-no. Actually, a few weeks before the June attack on Iran in May 2025, the first train arrived from Iran through this line to Iran to Tehran from China. So just a couple of weeks after that, the war broke against Iran. But the general context for this war, and I think this is the analysis we have had in the Schiller Institute for many years, is that we have a shift in the global economic power."
