"Hello, everyone. My name is Ellie and welcome to Under O with the Bates-Sedic Summer for Justice interns. Introduce yourself. Hi, I'm just cheap sing. I heard a child from the wall. My name is Shayne of Girlstain and I am a rising 2L at USC Gold School of Law. My name is Sienna Graufe. I'm a rising sophomore at Yale University. Describe your internship with Bates-Sedic in three words. Exciting, fulfilling, and unique. I don't have three words. I have one word. I would say it's perfect. Say perfect. I mean, you know, the people here, the culture. I love what I'm doing. It's really cool people. The people who work here, the people who are interning here, the people from Los Angeles that we get to interact with have all just been really awesome and I've learned a lot from every single one of those groups. What has surprised you most about working with Bates-Sedic? I would say, honestly, I feel like people have a certain image of what like older people are capable of or not capable of. And I feel like it has surprised me so much how independent older adults are and how much they are capable of doing, especially people who have never spoken English in their lives. And it's just been really cool to help them and see where that goes. Honestly, besides the inconsistent traffic that I hit every morning to get here, nothing really. I mean, it's honesty. It's everything that I expected and more. I really learned a lot about Los Angeles policy from doing intake calls, especially getting to hear about mostly elderly people from Los Angeles about what kind of issues are facing them in their life. Makes it really clear what kind of changes need to be made. And that was not something I expected to be learning from this opportunity that was mostly focused on one to one."
