"Once you engage in it, when you're checking out at the counter at the supermarket, if you look at the tabloid headlines, again, the one I love, I really saw this one day, woman gives birth to her own father. You say, I didn't bother to go and examine the evidential credentials of that story. I just laughed and went on, right? And the unbeliever, in a sense, is doing the same thing. When we present a book that talks about floating ax heads and resurrections and a virgin birth, the unbeliever says, we know those sorts of things don't happen, put it away. The implicit argument is that such things are impossible, so they couldn't have occurred. And that's why unbelievers dismiss in advance a book that relates miraculous events. The possibility of miraculous events is advanced. And in light of that unspoken premise, the unbeliever cast a doubtful eye upon the biblical narrative."
