"The Trump administration is lying about ICE. They said that the agents who killed Lorenzo Salgado Arajo were not issued body worn cameras because of the government shutdowns that were happening earlier this year. That is a lie. First of all, ICE had $75 billion in surge funding that they just got last year that could have been spent on body worn cameras. They were able to recruit new agents. They were able to increase enforcement operations throughout the country. They were able to buy vehicles, but somehow they couldn't buy cameras. And not only that, Democrats were the only folks in Congress who were fighting to make sure that DHS didn't get a single dollar from Congress unless body worn cameras were required for all ICE officers. And when the Trump administration tried to cut their own budget from $20 million for body worn cameras to $5 million, it was only Democrats who fought back against that happening. Look, right now the Trump administration is trying to lie to the American public because some ICE agents executed a father here in Houston and they did not have body worn cameras on per ICE's own spokesperson in the Trump administration. This is craziness. Every single law enforcement officer on the street should have body worn cameras so that the public can have the evidence. We need to keep fighting for an independent investigation that makes sure that all the evidence that is out there is given to the public. We should know the name of the ICE agents who were involved in this operation, who approved this operation, who were they trying to find, why did it escalate so quickly? But right now we have no information because ICE is not being transparent with the public."
