Autonomous cabs are coming to more cities as Waymo, Tesla and Uber have announced plans to expand service. NewsNation’s Rich Bodee has the details.
"It's been a little bit of a rough start for autonomous ride shares or robo taxis, but more people will soon be able to hail a self driving cab as robo taxis grow in popularity. Competitors Tesla and Waymo have announced plans to expand their services. Waymo will tack on four more U. S cities to the 11 the company's nearly 4000 vehicle fleet already operates in. By comparison, Tesla announced it will expand its robo taxi service to a fourth U. S city. Cyber cabs are hitting the streets of West Miami on a limited basis with plans to expand to more cities. As of May, Tesla reported just over 40 cyber cabs in operation. Tesla first unveiled the cyber cab in 2024 and is behind Waymo, but ahead of Uber's robo taxi development, which in July of 2025 announced a partnership with carmakers Neuro and Lucid. Uber says you'll see a roll out of its robo taxis this year in San Francisco and Houston, where it has already begun testing. Under the current agreement, Uber will buy 35,000 lucid vehicles over six years. And as the robo taxi race heats up, Goldman Sachs research projections show the U. S. Autonomous vehicle market could hit $48 billion by 2035."
