"along comes Saving Private Ryan and it's this powerful story of American heroism on the 6th of June 1944 of what Americans gave there and also of course what it took from them and it is unapologetic in that focus but I think if we put it into that context why it's unapologetic kind of has a logic to it, it kind of makes sense and then we get to now and pressure and as someone who spent a lot of his time and you're going to Normandy and thinking about D-Day films but also really interested in transatlantic relations, US-UK relations, I think one of the things that strikes me about pressure is again how it's a marker of its moment and in the extent to which it is saying something and trying to say something I think very deliberately about the continued worth and value of the transatlantic relationship which we all know in recent months has been under some stress and strain."
