"The rudest thing that was ever said to me was, oh honey, there's been many, many, many things that have been rude said to me. Of course, being a gay man, I've been attacked about my sexuality and called many names. I've even had rocks thrown at me. They missed. I picked it up and threw back and I didn't miss. I broke their arm. That's another story. I have been attacked and called names because of my religion. But something that kind of pops to the foreground is, back when I was in high school, I actually had an instructor, a teacher from high school, who I looked up to, they were my band director, tell me not to even try to get into Berklee College of Music in Boston because I'd never get in. That's an elite school. That made me more determined. I applied and I got in. And not only did I graduate, I graduated with a triple major in music. And that brings me to my last point. What other people think about me is none of my business. I always say that, but live by example. Live by example. I have been married to my husband now for over 30 years. I have been practicing Wicca since 1988. I don't know, you do the math on that one. And I'm a very successful professional musician. So live by example. Show them who's right."
